Openings

We welcome talented and highly motivated researchers at all levels – high school (via Summer Programs and towards Undergraduate Research Scholarship), undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral and visiting scholars – who thrive in a collaborative multidisciplinary laboratory with broad expertise in quantum materials synthesis and nanoscale device characterizations.

Undergraduate Students

There are numerous opportunities for undergraduate students to gain research experience in Chi Lab, including, but not limited to: NSERC USRA, USRO, Indigenous Pathways - uOASISS, Honours, CO-OP and Mitacs projects. Applicants are welcome to email Dr. Chi their Resume and Transcript for consideration.

Graduate Students

There are MSc/PhD positions available in Chi Lab at the University of Ottawa, on a rolling basis, in the fields of condensed matter physics, electrical engineering and computer science. The official application is typically due on February 1 for Summer/Fall semester and September 1 for the Winter.

Applicants are encouraged to carefully study Chi Lab’s research paradigm, and email Dr. Chi regarding their candidacy and suitable projects with: CV, Transcripts, Statement (of research interests, achievements and career aspiration, up to two pages), and two (to three) Letters of Recommendation (directly sent by referees). Owing to the high volume of inquiries, only candidates selected for interview would be contacted.

Various prestigious scholarships are available for eligible candidates, e.g., Vanier CGS, CGS D, CGS M, NSERC PGS D, OGS, QEII, FRQNT and Mitacs. Please feel free to reach out to Dr. Chi for details and support.

Postdoctoral Researchers

Applications and nominations are welcome for postdoctoral researcher positions in the field of experimental condensed matter physics in Chi Lab at the University of Ottawa, to investigate interface-driven magnetic, topological, and superconducting quantum materials and devices, utilizing state-of-the-art materials growth (crystals and films), nano fabrication, magneto-thermo-electrical transport, as well as leveraging neutron, muon, electron, magnetic imaging, high field, and scanning/tunneling techniques through fruitful collaborations at major research institutes and user facilities.

Applicants with proven excellent credentials are invited to submit to Dr. Chi via email: Cover Letter, CV, Research Statement (up to three pages), and arrange three confidential Letters of Reference. Owing to the high volume of inquiries, only candidates advanced to the interview stage will be contacted.

For those eligible, Dr. Chi will support and accommodate their applications to distinguished Postdoc Fellowship Programs including Banting, NSERC PDF and MSCA Global.

The University of Ottawa is committed to ensuring equity, diversity and inclusion in the scholarly and leadership environments of our students, staff, and faculty. Applications from Indigenous Peoples in Canada, visible minorities, persons with disabilities, and women candidates are especially encouraged.
