Jakob McBride
MSc Student
jmcbr065@uottawa.ca
Jakob completed his Honours BSc in Physics at the University of Ottawa. For his honours project, he used Raman spectroscopy in a diamond anvil cell to measure how the in-plane and out-of-plane vibrational modes of bulk MoS₂ shift with pressure, at room temperature and 10 K.
He is now an MSc student, co-supervised by Dr. Serge Desgreniers and Dr. Hang Chi. His thesis characterizes phase transitions in transition metal dichalcogenides under extreme conditions, combining Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, with a goal to analyze few-layer to monolayer samples.
Outside the lab, Jakob likes to spend his time playing sports such as soccer, bouldering, and certainly golf as he is a competitive member of the University of Ottawa golf team.
